Dear Terry,
I first heard "A Pittance of Time" in grade 7 on rememberance day, and I fell in love with it. Terry, you've been a HUGE inspiration in my life, and I cannot thank you any more. I one day dream of opening a store named "Terry Kelly's Deli", and I will sell numerous products from Ireland and Canada. On Nov. 11 2007 (the past rememberance day), I made a pin that read "Lest We Forget", with your face as a background, and I recorded "A Pittance of Time" on the back and it played when I played a button. You've motivated me to remember the lives that were lost. From laddie to lad, I can never thank you enough.

Sir, I recently read your story of how and why you wrote and performed "A Pittance of Time". Your powerful statement of patriotism and pride struck a deep emotional chord in me. Though it may be considered unmanly, I will admit that the tear in my eye and the lump in my throat made your poignant story difficult to read. I would like to believe that I would have had the same powerful reaction to it even if I were not a veteran. However, serving in Vietnam, and being wounded 3 weeks after my 21st birthday, has made me acutely aware and appreciative of the sacrifices others have made and are still making even as I write. Kudos to you sir for putting into words what so many of us so deeply feel! I have been unable to locate anywhere the sheet music to “A Pittance of Time”. Could you please advise if the sheet music is currently available to the public, and if so how to obtain it. I would very much like to include it in some of our patriotic ceremonies, “south of the border” here in Michigan. An appreciative veteran

I had the opportunity to hear you speak at a special training session put on through Community Living Brant in Brantford, Ontario. Thank you Mr Kelley for your thought provoking and often humorous message you delivered to us that day. I can't tell you when I've enjoyed one of our "training sessions" more. I have a sister who is totally blind too. I spoke to you about her when I came up to meet you. She went to the school for the blind in Branford, and because of her teachings through the school, she too is independant, and living on her own in Toronto. I saw your amazing, "Pittance of Time" video, about a year ago. What an outstanding Video/Song you have made. It truley gives me goose bumps every time I watch it...and I watch it a lot. My father was in WWII in the Navy, aboard a Corvette. I am bewildered at the bravery of all the men and women he talks abouts...including himself...puting their lives on the line for us all hear at home, in order to help others in far away lands. The video of "A Pittance of Time" was just forwarded to me. What a beautiful song and thought. This was especially meaningful to me. My son, SGT Brian Wood, was killed fighting in Iraq in 2004. Your song expressed the feelings that come over me every time I go to some event and, during the national anthem, I see people of all ages go on with their conversations...laughing and ignoring what that song and that flag stand for. Over 1.4 million Americans died that they and others might live in a free land. Ignoring the anthem and the flag does ignore those ultimate sacrifices.

Thank you again, Mr. Kelly, from a dad who feels your song reverberate in his soul.

Hello Terry, On top of everything else well done to not only be talented in your musical endeavors but to also make a living at it. which fails so many other who do not have to endure the aspect of having a physical disadvantage. I made a drunken request way back when to have the chords of the song pittance of time emailed to me and in no time received them. As a hack guitar player trying to impress no one els but himself I was moved at the reality of the meaning of the song and the fact that it is so close to home. As a young member of the 164 legion of Eastern Passage I would like to make a proposal to have you entertain the many that show up each year to the ceremonies each year. I would like to get information on your availability and thoughts on the matter as well as an idea as to what the cost would be.

The legions are hurting and need many boosts in the arm. I believe that you are what they need as I continue to play your video well past Nov 11 and use it for inspiration or to remind me no matter how bad my day was things could and would be worse if not for many sacrifices. (In honesty you run second to my daughter for the calming affect but well ahead of the wife and dog LOL). Anyway, thank you for your time in this matter. It goes without saying if you ever want to visit the legion please let me know and i can arrange a little jam session for you to hear the local talent and you wouldn't have to work (unless you get into the mood of course). I just had the tearful pleasure of seeing and listening to your "A Pittance of Time"--I was made aware of it by a naturalized citizen--he came from South Africa via Canada--he sent me an email 1/29/08 and suggested I view your tribute. I am a vet as is my wife and as my father was--I have the same problem in school when students do not want to stand and at least show respect for their flag--I always have a few harsh words for them about why they can sit and not stand-because they live here and not in a country that their actions could be a reason for death or prision. Again thank you so much for a wonderful tribute to vets--I am going to purchase a copy and play it during summers school-- I teach Civics and so many of our young people do not know or appreciate where they live.

I am haunted by, "A Pittance of Time", both the video and also the lyrics alone.

I fought a foreign war myself and experienced the cultural disregard that so many veterans find their service greeted with when they returned home.

I am sixty-one and slowing dying from cancer caused by my own side spraying defolients in the jungle.This only serves to exacerbate the anger within me.Your music helps mitigate it.Thank you.

I just had the distinct pleasure of watching "a Pittance of Time" Oh my god I had tears in my eyes. Thank you for creating such an inspirational message. I am aware that you wrote it a couple of years ago and I am ashamed to say this is the first time I saw it. I am a 28 year member of the Canadian Air Force. I have been in the Middle East as a peacekeeper and will in the next year serve 2, 2 month tours in Afghanistan.

In 1988, I attended Expo 88, where I saw Terry at the Canadian Pavilion, his performance drew unbelievable crowds. We had to have a copy of his Face to Face album. This tape was repeatedly played over and over but unfortunately it has since expired. Can anyone help me to purchase another copy of this album, as life just doesn't seem the same without it.
After hearing the amazing Pittance of Time, I contacted my local RSL and suggested that maybe it would be an appropriate song for them to play at our remembrance services. Even though it was written for the overseas servicemen and women, peace is something that we strive for world wide.

My father recently passed away, a veteran, fire fighter and great man. More than 50 year Legion Member and an Honourary Life Member of the Kitchener Fire Dept, only one of 3 to be awarded with such an honour. I played a Pittance of Time for may Dad and Celebration of Life, and it brought tear to his eyes, as he succumbed to occupational cancer from years of firefighting, but he wouldn't have given up one day of his career, as he loved his job and his country. Terry your inspirational songs are a tribute to all the great men and women of this country. Thank you for your words and wisdom, and being a great inspiration to Canada.

I work at a 600 acre Vetererns Hospital in Maryland and I want to tell you that your song brought this burly old elevator mechanic to tears. I am a 7th grade social studies teacher. For Veteran's Day I wanted to show a meaningful video to my students and one that would not totally bore them to death. I checked out You Tube. I set up several short video clips in what I though was a meaningful order. One of the clips I found was "The Pittance of Time". I cannot tell you how much that song and accompanying video touched me.

The kids in each class came in singing to Lee Greenwood's "Proud To Be An American". With it were visuals of the country. The very last video was again "Proud To Be An American". There was no singing - just total silence. The difference came as I showed there a variety of memoral clips for Veteran's Day from different wars. Of course, your clip was included.

I had to watch the whole presentation 5 times that day. I will tell you that your song gave me chills each time. It is such a beautiful tune. I just went on your website and discovered that it was inspired by a real life situation. I cannot wait to let my students know this.

Thank you so much for the inspiring song, "Pittance of Time". When I first inquired about the song and video, I was pleasantly surprised to have had my phone message returned by your brother and manager Tony. We have since purchased the video and will be presenting it to my father-in-law, John S. Vargo Jr., veteran of The United States Navy, 79 years old today. John has been tireless in his efforts to educate the public about the importance of remembering our veterans. John is the president of The Vermilion Ohio Veterans Council, an organization that honor's all Veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. When my father passed in 2003, John and the Veterans who paid their last respects at the funeral home is something that my Mother and five siblings still remember. It was a difficult time, to say the least, however, seeing the 20 or so Veterans who conducted the service stand at attention and to hear the guns salute my Father outside the funeral home.....it was very moving and this experience is still a great comfort to us all. If you are ever in our area, we would welcome you to our Amvets Post 22 Home in Vermilion Ohio.

A Pittance of Time Performance was one of the most moving and meaningful presentations I have ever attended. I only wish all Canadians could see it. My two school aged kids were also in attendance and I believe it was a profound and important message that was a gift to them & I am so grateful you helped them receive! Years ago I in my own youth and unknowing, asked my great grand-uncle about the both world wars he was in. I guess he had no words to properly express the depth of the wars to me and simply stated " You never ever want to experience war in your life. That's why we fought, so you will never ever have to experience war". I never truly got the depth of the impact war had on people, real people, like my grand-uncles that fought, until A Pittance of Time. I feel my children are blessed with a knowing and better understanding of "why" and what the war was about. A Pittance of Time is a brilliant way to ensure that we all never forget! I absolutely love the song, the music, the lyrics of "A Pittance Of Time". I have learned to play the song on the guitar and truly enjoy playing over and over again.
A friend of mine has sent me the video now for the second year in a row and it was the second time it was sent that actually inspired me more to want to learn to play it, so I did.
I listen to the words, and almost feel like crying while playing it. The song means alot to me. Thank you for putting it together so perfectly.

I heard this song about three years ago; I was touch by how it made me feel. I though I was tough at heart but this song broke me. Every year I play this song and get the same feeling. The incident that moved you to write this song has just happened to me.
I was at a furniture store with my wife, son (1year) and daughter (3years) when I told my daughter she had to keep quit and think of the men who fought to keep this country free. And show your respect. There was a salesman from this store still trying to make a deal with some one. This made my daughter ask why he is not thinking of the men we speck of. I could only say sshh until the two min where up, then I told her out laud that some people have no respect. I just hope her heard me.

What a beautiful story and beautiful song. My grandson just got home from his third deployment over there. This song and story brought tears to my eyes.

As a teenager I do see how my friends and fellow peers tend to shove off the fact we have to stand, or how every morning durning our moment of silence, some of them speak. Hey Terry...
My name is Ashley Hampson. I have a military family and have been in cadets for five years.

I just wanted you to know that your sone 'A Pittance Of Time' was very moving to me. Seeing as how I have many members of my family who are, and who have been, in the military for many years the video really touched my heart. I know exactly how it feels for families who have brothers, fathers, sisters, mothers, friends that go overseas to fight for our freedom. At the beginning of the 9/11 attacks my father went to Afghanistan along with many other ships in the Navy for 'Operation Apollo'. It was not the first time he went away, but for the first time I understood what was going on. It was very hard for me and even though this war isn't as major as many of the past wars I was extremely scared for his life. I prayed everynight for my father's safe return, and 9 months later he did just that- alive!

Anyways, the reason I am writing you is because I am a grade 12 student at Auburn Drive High School in Cole Harbour, NS. Today we held a Remembrance Day Ceremony in the gym at our school... The show put on by the grade 11 students was amazing and very touchy. It leapt right into the hearts of the audience. When they played your video I realised how important remembering really is. Sometimes it takes just something small to make you realise how ignorant or arrogant some people can be to the fact that if it wasn't for the people before us, we may not exist today.

I'm not exactly sure how, but you have inspired me today. I was wondering if there is any way that you would be able to come to my school and give a presentation to the grade 12 graduating class of '08... A presentation on going after what you want... inspiration... and never letting petty things stand in your way. I think you would be perfect for this and I am sure that myself, along with much of my graduating class would appreciate this!

This song brings me to tears and back to personal memories... in WW11, my uncle entered service, and with his platoon went to Italy, where they encountered enemy soldiers, in some unidentified field. My uncle, as a child who always brought home abandoned animals, to care for, and who sang in the church choir would come to love a young woman who would become his war bride. He felt it an honor and obligation to fight in a war, to spare those here at home, the ravages that war brings. One cold and rainy day, as the story has been passed on to we children, my uncle, George and his platoon were stationed in a foxhole when the orders came in that they were to engage German soldiers hiding in a nearby trench. As the platoon readied themselves to take action in what seemed to be a situation with a dubious outcome, my uncle took it upon himself to rise up from the fox hole and rush the enemy; as he approached with a live grenade, he was struck down... George was just 19... back at home his young wife had just recently given birth to their first and only child, a daughter, whom he never had the chance to hold or share in the joy of her birth. When my grandmother received what was left of his belongings, she gently searched the pocket of his uniform and brought out a small black and white photo, torn and crumpled, stained with his tears... the picture was of his infant daughter, the only image of her he would ever see. My uncle was awarded the Purple Heart and another medal for bravery, and to this day, his life and sacrifices, makes me proud of my personal hero and of those to this day, who fight the "good fight"... Thank you so very much for your inspirational tribute, Terry!!!

Thank you very much for sharing your Pittance of Time with all of us. My Dad was a Canadian Navigator who met and married a WAAF while stationed in England. I never miss a Rememberance Day, in fact this Sunday, my family and I are heading home to Kingman, Alberta, where, after the service, I will be showing a DVD that was taken at the base where my Parents met.
We are so proud that our parents served this country and fought for the rights that we have today.
On City TV in Edmonton tonight at 6:30 pm, there will be a documentary on me and one of the veterans that I have helped in finding his pilot. As a hobby, I have reunited over 30 crews that served in Waterbeach, England with RAF 514 squadron. I know my parents would be proud.

Terry, this year at our Rememberance Day service we played your song "A Pittance of Time" for a second year. It really touched me this year, because I am finding that many of the children that we are teaching today really need much more help to learn respect and citizenship. In a time when it is cool to be disrespectful, use tough talk, and big words. Where parents are often out of touch with what is appropriate for children to be exposed to (violence and crude language), I am happy to see that there are those of us who still believe that we have important values and customes that are worth passing down. We have good people who serve and protect us, or have fought to give us the rights and liberties that make this country great. Nothing has moved me as much since the passing of my father in 1996 as the hearing of your song “a pittance of time” for the first time this morning. My father, a decorated WWII RCAF vet, never talked much about the war, even when I begged him as a youngster. Perhaps he did not want to glorify his contribution. He was the humblest of human beings, who loved life and his family. I don’t know if I could have made the same sacrifice as so many young men and women of his time so willingly did. In the US, it has become common to "thank a soldier," or to "thank a vet." But is my turn, as a vet, to thank you for not only your wonderful song, but for the sentiments that song represents. The first time I saw and heard the song "A Pittance of Time in 2006 I cried and felt relieved that someone has finally brought to light everything that has happened. It also shows how much we need to teach our children and what then can teach us. I truly love this song and my father was very much involved with the Legion and this song was one thing that he enjoyed listening to it after he suffered a stroke and was unable to speak but could tap his feet and then he passed away. My husbands father and my step brother both served. So I pay and give alot of respect to the soldiers.
At my husbands work there is a guy named Ash that said "Rememberance Day is just the government's way to get people to support the war." My husband like you, Terry, wanted to deck him. But he took a deep breath and just told him the way it is. He tried to get him to understand. But you can lead a horse to water but you cannot force them to drink.

It is amazing how some people just do not get the whole thing. And it can be very upsetting and disturbing.

Maybe one day, everyone will understand.

Hello. Recently I spoke with a friend who was organizing a get together for lunch. The date happened to fall on Remembrance Day. I told her that my family could come, but it would be after going to the city's Remembrance Day ceremony. She was very surprised that I would go, even though my father or other family member had not served in either war. She said she had NEVER known anyone to go to a Remembrance Day ceremony - my friend is in her fifties! "We will remember them."

Hi Terry, I am writing this on behalf of my little boy who is 7yrs old and his Great Grandfather was in the Korean War and the Second World War. He thought so much of him and when he heard the song A Pittance of Time in brought tears to his eyes. I have actually got to go out and look for the CD for him. My sister sent me a clip of Pittance of Time, I will hug her later. I was born in Canada but have lived most of my 61 years in New Mexico, I'll always be proud of my Canadian heritage, and hearing and seeing this song made me even prouder of being who I am. Thank you.

Wow, My mother just handed me "A Pittance of Time" and told me to watch it and tell her what I think. You personally gave my father the video in St. Johns airport once, My dad works at 14 Wing CFB greenwood and he invited you to do a show at the mess once when he was the entertainment coordinator. The video is wonderful. I am only 17 year old but I find that a very very small percentage of youth these days pay respect on remberance day. I think it is an extremely important day. I am bringing your video to school tomorrow to see if they will play it on Friday at school when we have our school services.

I stumbled upon your webpage today. As a US Navy Veteran (1969-1977), I was honored by your song and video "A Pittance of Time." I wish more people felt the way you do, for their Veterans. I took my 11 Year 5 and 6 students to The Shrine of Rememberance in Melbourne last Monday. We had an incredible visit with a sensational tour guide who was a VET from Vietnam. My students and I learnt so much during our two hour educational program, however, the only time I was moved to tears was when I watched your music DVD, A Pittance of Time. Thank you Terry you have created a message that is not only incredibly moving but also packs a huge punch to those adults who have never thought of the sacrifice and service by so many in the past. My mission now is to purchase a copy of your music DVD and use it every year before our Remembrance Day assembly at school.

I am a middle school teacher and have used the video of A Pittance of Time since it was sent to me. Too many of our youth have lost a connection to the significance of remembering. Your video and song has helped me to instill in them that respect and honour do matter. As I have occasionally had students in my classes who have a parent serving in the Armed Forces, they attest to the fact that we should never forget. Thank you for helping to make this happen.

Hi Terry, I am a 26 year old male and i lost many family members in WW1 and WW2....I happened to stumble across you song for the first time on a friends online blog....I have not cried this much in a long time. Your Song is absolutely beautiful and extremely moving. I am very proud that you were able to keep your tongue quiet for those 2 minutes and I completely understand you wanting to strike him. I cant believe sometime show dis-respectful people can be to our heritage, freedom and customs.

Mr. Kelly - Your song/video was sent to my wife and she passed it on to me. I have watched it several times over the years and it never ceases to bring a tear to my eye. I have taught elementary school for over 30 years, and I started using your song and video as part of our Remembrance Day lessons and ceremony. I have never seen 12 and 13 year old children so quiet and mesmerized by a video and song. And the silence lasts well after the video is finished. It generates discussion and questions and they all want the website so that they can access the video to show their parents and send to their friends. I myself have sent it, and continue to do so, to everyone I know.
Every time I listen to it, it's one of those moments that takes my breath away. I finally had to find out more about the song and you, the singer. After checking it out, you have another fan.

Your song for the VETERAN'S is wonderful. I work with the VETERAN'S for a living and let me say, if you heard some of their stories, you would be heartsick. They truly deserve all that life has to offer them in return for their sacrafices for us. Your other songs are beautiful also.

The title and the lyrics are so true. No matter where I am or what I am doing at 11:00AM on Nov 11. I stop for my 2 minutes of silence. My father was a WW11 Vet. I can't even imagine the hardship he went through. He never spoke much about the war only when he had a few drinks I am sure it was something he didn't want to remember. We have all those war vets to thank for our freedom. All new canadians should thank them even more, if it wasn't for them they wouldn't have this beautiful country to immigrate to, and enjoy the freedom, the reason why the came here to make this their home. I will not stop short to tell them this, in memory of my father and the other vets, who laid their life down for this wonderful country.
